Since I have my whole life on my Mac these days, I back up to multiple HD's, plus CD or DVD and iDisk (for smaller stuff).

I probably spent about £1500 on backup stuff since May 2005, when I suffered a massive double computer failure on the same day - one Mac suffered a corrupted catalogue because I'd been over-filled the HD (where in the manual does it tell you you should leave 15% of your HD free? I'd have done it if they'd only told me) and the other was suffering from dodgy upgrade processors which picked that day to go belly-up after working fine for a year.

I had got backups of everything except that morning's work, but in some cases I really had to dig old CDs out of the back of cupboards to find stuff - a couple of important files were only to be found in a pile of CDs I'd marked for chucking out but not got round to.

God bless iSync Backup and .Mac, which allowed me to restore all my System, application and mail preferences in less than an hour. I even got my Safari bookmarks back.

If you're backing up to CD/DVD, make multiple copies of important stuff - I nearly lost an original page of Scarlet Traces because the CD it was stored on had begun to degrade.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02982284633069836213noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29485212.post-1156841105232626452006-08-29T09:45:00.000+01:002006-08-29T09:45:00.000+01:00Toast was fantastic.
